On July 19, 2008, 22 year-old Emily Cox, Miss Bowling Green, was crowned Miss Kentucky 2008. She
is the daughter of Ricky Cox and Jenny Cox of Campbellsville. Emily is a graduate of the University of Kentucky
with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She plans to earn a Doctorate of Pharmacy degree and become a clinical
pharmacist specializing in pediatrics.
Emily's platform issue is "Uniquely Me" - Promoting Self-Esteem in Adolescent Girls.
Emily won the Overall Talent Award at the 2008 Miss Kentucky Pageant performing a piano piece entitled, "Impromptu in C Sharp
Minor." Emily has received 12 consecutive superior ratings in piano and gave an honorary piano performance for a former
Kentucky governor.
As Miss Kentucky, Emily serves as the spokesperson for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's
"No Ifs, Ands or Butts - It's the Law" program which educates youth about the laws prohibiting the sale of tobacco products to minors and the penalties for
breaking the law. She delivers this message to all age groups in schools throughout the commonwealth.
An interesting fact about Emily is that she was crowned the first Miss Bowling Green since 1990 when
her aunt, Nancy Cox, won the title and became Miss Kentucky later that year. The same title proved to be Emily's
lucky charm this year, winning the state title on her third attempt. She is also the fifth Campbellsville native to
win the Miss Kentucky title.
