On July 12, 2014, 23 year-old Ramsey Carpenter, Miss My
Old Kentucky Home, was crowned Miss Kentucky 2014. She is the daughter of Donna Carpenter and Joey
Carpenter of Hartford. Ramsey is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Arts degree
in Special Education/LBD with hopes of obtaining a Master's degree in Media Specialist/Librarian Service and both a
Rank I and PhD in Administration with a goal of eventually pursuing a career in school administration as either a principal,
special education director or superintendent.
Ramsey's platform issue is Multiple Sclerosis Awareness, a condition which she was diagnosed
with on August 25, 2010. She was awarded the Heather French Henry Quality of Life Award for her outstanding work
with her platform. Ramsey performed a Bluegrass Fiddle Medley of "Sally Goodin" and "Orange Blossom
Special" for the talent competition.
As Miss Kentucky, Ramsey serves as the spokesperson for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture's
"Kentucky Proud" program which encourages consumers of all ages to purchase products produced in Kentucky and to maintain a healthy
and active lifestyle. She delivers this message to all age groups in schools throughout the commonwealth.
Some other interesting facts about Ramsey include that her favorite food is her grandmama's
fried chicken and her favorite place to visit is Rupp Arena to cheer on the Cats. Her secret wish is to star as
Scarlett O'Hara in a remake of "Gone with the Wind" and something out of character that she would like to try
would be BASE Jumping!
